What Are The Common Gas Combination Boiler Problems?

What is a gas combination boiler?

The combined boiler provides hot water and central heating directly from the boiler (one off boiler service). These boilers do not require a water tank. When you call hot water, the boiler will turn on and continue to supply you with water until you turn off the faucet. When the boiler is running, hot water takes precedence over central heating. Therefore, if the central heating system is turned on and water is required, the heater will be turned off when the boiler heats the water. Depending on the duration of the water, you will not notice any difference in central heating.

Most boiler combinations are fitted with an internal expansion tank. The expansion tank can be operated when the boiler is shipped from the factory. The expansion tank looks like a balloon. Inside the container, there is a large rubber diaphragm with air or nitrogen. When the boiler is running, the water inside starts to swell and must be somewhere here. Where the expansion tank goes to work, it is assumed that the hot water is expanding. Over time, the expansion vessel loses its air or nitrogen load and must be restarted to function properly.

So, how do you know if the expansion tank needs to be restarted?

Most gas combination boilers are equipped with a pressure gauge on the front panel and should indicate a cooling time of about 1 bar, because the water heater reaches about 2 bar until the meter rises. If the indicator rises more than 3 bars, you may encounter expansion tank problems. Have you noticed that the boiler’s pressure gauge is zero and the boiler is blocked? Have you noticed that water is flowing from the overflow pipe of the boiler? These are the symptoms of the expansion tank problem.

The expansion vessel is a very important part of the boiler and the annual service of the boiler should be checked annually. Be sure to have your gas boiler engineer check the glass because it seems to lack a lot of service.

Hot water problem

The next problem with the boiler is not common, but if it does not maintain the boiler, it will eventually happen. Have you noticed that hot water will not heat up? Does overtime take longer to warm up?Most gas boilers have a separate hot water heat exchanger that supplies hot water to the faucet. Where the hot water demand is requested, the boiler is switched on and the water flows only in the boiler, passing through the hot water heat exchanger and heating the water for use.

When reinstalling the boiler, the entire system should be cleaned and cleaned to remove clogged water and debris. After cleaning, the inhibitor should be added to the system water. The inhibitor protects and prevents sludge from accumulating in the boiler and radiator. Over time, the inhibitor is diluted and must be refilled.
